In mining engineering, science and technology are applied to the extraction of minerals. The challenges are diverse and complex - and vary from mine to mine to boot. The "VR-Mine" project now offers the opportunity to get hands-on experience virtually - and thus closes a gaping hole in the training of mining engineers. It's a product that fits the spirit of the times, while more and more mines in Europe are closing, making internships scarcer by the year. Through the innovative tool, universities could now give their students the opportunity to get used to the environment in a mine and gain experience - and do so safely and cost-effectively.
