The Mixed Reality voice training from the BMBF-funded joint project ELLI2 (Excellent Teaching and Learning in Engineering) was awarded the first place of the Innovation Award for Digital Education (delina 2018) in the category "University". The award ceremony took place on 31 January 2018 at LEARNTEC, the leading trade fair for digital education in Karlsruhe. For the sixth time, digital association Bitkom has honored projects and initiatives that address trends in the field of digital teaching and learning and put innovative ideas into practice. In a total of four categories, there were nearly 100 applications this year, from which a jury of 25 from renowned education experts from the areas of school, university and industry chose the winners. The patron is the Executive Federal Minister of Education Johanna Wanka.

The aim of the mixed reality vocal training is to enable the participants in a seminar to learn and train techniques for the correct use of the voice in realistic virtual environments. In order to acoustically simulate different lecture halls in the mixed reality environment, various lecture halls will be acoustically traced during the course of the project with the support of the RWTH Aachen Institute of Technical Acoustics. An optical representation is realized on the basis of 360 ° shots of the same lecture halls. VR glasses and a headset enable the user to immerse themselves in a virtual learning environment. "The RWTH Aachen project uses VR technology to meet a specific need and provides real added value for all teachers who are no longer able to cope with traditional teaching methods. The deployment is very simple and therefore has high transfer potential, "says Bitkom CEO Christian Kulick.
