"Engineers without Borders Challenge" together with TU Dortmund
For the first time since its establishment at RWTH Aachen University, the "Engineers Without Borders Challenge" (IoGC) was transferred to another university in this winter semester 2017/18: On February 5, TU Dortmund University and RWTH Aachen University jointly organized a student final conference in Dortmund. Students from Dortmund and Aachen jointly presented their concepts for challenges in Central and East Africa - the challenge task - in front of a jury of lecturers and representatives from "Engineers without Borders e.V." Being able to engage in cross-curricular exchanges around the challenge topics made the final event a complete success, as demonstrated by highly motivated interdisciplinary project teams. These were to improve their basic needs with their concepts and ideas for water supply and electrification in Cameroon, Tanzania and Mozambique. Finally, in a voting, all participants voted on the solutions of the teams. Here, a Dortmund team of mechanical engineering students prevailed with a surprisingly simple designed plant for drinking water treatment in Tanzania. The IoGC has been regularly integrated into various IMA / ZLW courses since 2012. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the project "ELLI 2 - Excellent teaching and learning in engineering".
