Excellent Teaching and Learning in Engineering Science
ELLI is the cooperative project conducted by RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr Universität Bochum and TU Dortmund University that aims at improving study conditions and further development of teaching quality in the education of engineers. Essential for the cooperation is the integration of engineering-oriented professorial chairs as well as university-didactic institutions.
In October 2016 the second funding period within the scope of the “Qualitätspakt Lehre” (Teaching Quality Pact by the German Federal Government and States) started which builds on the success of the past five years in the predecessor project. During the first funding period innovative learning methods and concepts have been developed and put into practice. The transfer of the results and insights to other universities is a core point of ELLI and has already been discussed at national and international conferences with expert audiences. This path is to be continued in ELLI 2. The project will also be slightly adjusted by switching the focus to the most urgent requirements to engineer education in the coming years. This is done with regard of the implications of industry 4.0, the growing importance of an entrepreneurial spirit as well as using the potential of virtual learning environments and remote labs for scientific and practical education. ELLI 2 consists of four key areas fitting to the developments mentioned before: remote labs and virtual learning environments, globalization, student life cycle and entrepreneurship.
