Concentrated solar power (CSP) plants are an important building block for the success of transition towards renewable energy sources. However, an important prerequisite for the use of these power plants is their efficient and therefore cost-effective operation. The consortium of the SmartCSP project is therefore committed to further increasing the efficiency of CSP plants through the systematic use of data science and artificial intelligence methods.

The amount of electricity generated fluctuates greatly - depending on whether the sun is shining or the wind is blowing at the time. Concentrated solar power plants offer a suitable way of circumventing this weakness by heating a carrier medium when the sun is shining strongly, which can then be stored for later electricity generation. The aim of the SmartCSP project is to promote the competitiveness of this promising technology by using artificial intelligence to optimize the operation and maintenance of CSP plants.
