For the 4th time in a row: Aachen Carologistics win championship titles in the RoboCup Logistics League

In an exciting finale, the Aachen team Carologistics won the championship title for the fourth time in a row at the German Open of the RoboCup Logistics League (25.-29.April 2018) in Magdeburg. After extra time, the Carologistics succeeded by a narrow margin of only two points 26:24 against the rival Grips from Graz, also the runner-up of last year's RoboCup. The Logistics League is a RoboCup discipline representing an operation in an industrial setting. Fully autonomous robots have to intelligently and flexibly implement production steps to complete a logistical task and compete with other teams within a given time on an 8 x 12 meter production area.

The established Carologistics team consists of scientists and students from the Cybernetics Lab IMA & IfU, the teaching and research area Knowledge-based Systems (both RWTH Aachen University) and the MASCOR Institute (FH Aachen). Its success  mainly based on their capability to strongly abstract the individual tasks in their "agent system" and then draw conclusions from the environmental information for the next steps and how to respond to unforeseen events. The sponsors of the intralogistics company AGVR, igus, the world's largest manufacturer of energy chain systems, and storage robot manufacturer Magazino were also able to get an idea of this directly on location in Magdeburg. For the international RoboCup World Championships in Montreal in June, the team will now increasingly work on its gripping system.
