Experience artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 at LabTour

During a LabTour on Wednesday, 12 February 2020, through the Cybernetics Lab IMA & IfU e.V., a look into the demonstration centre and the research halls will show what is already possible today through research and application of artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 technologies. The LabTour shows how multifaceted Industry 4.0 is and how extensive the associated variety of individual solutions is.

Because in order to ensure long-term success in mechanical and plant engineering, Industrie 4.0 technologies must be used in companies. Artificial intelligence is one of the important technologies for implementing the future vision of Industry 4.0. While large companies succeed in investigating and integrating such new technologies, smaller and medium-sized companies face major challenges. Large companies usually have their own R&D departments, whereas SMEs usually need external partners such as the Cybernetics Lab for implementation. The aim of the event is to experience examples of digital production live and to gain ideas for one's own projects.

One of the research projects is "InPuls - Intelligent and Self-learning Production Processes", which was carried out together with the VDMA Industry 4.0 Forum and a VDMA industry working group accompanying the project. The result was the guideline "Self-learning production processes - implementation strategy for reinforcement learning in industrial practice". It serves as a tool for developing one's own implementation strategy for the methods of Machine Learning and here in particular for Reinforcement Learning. This will also be presented as part of the LabTour.

The event is offered by ProduktionNRW. ProduktionNRW is the competence network of mechanical engineering and production technology in North Rhine-Westphalia and is run by the VDMA NRW. It is a platform for networking, informing and marketing companies, institutions and networks among themselves and along the value chain. Significant parts of the services provided by ProduktionNRW are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
