Best Paper Award for Intelligent Data Usage

At the Cybernetics Lab, in cooperation with HotSprings GmbH, is currently developing the data and information platform ESKAPE in frame of the research project “Enterprise and Research Data Marketplace”. ESKAPE not only enables users to find data on an information-oriented level with the help of artificial intelligence, but also to understand, process and visualize it. Recent research and developments have received the Best Paper Award in March 2018 at the prestigious International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS) in Funchal, Madeira.

This paper presents a novel approach based on intelligent algorithms. This allows automated usage of data, such column names of a table, to identify further information about this data set as well as cross-links between the data. The method initially performs an intensive analysis of large amounts of historical identifiers. By flexibly linking different methods, holistically considering all column names, and including external data, the process identifies the optimal combination of information for a given data set. A central application for the presented research is the usage in supportive modeling of information to generate databases. Modeling forms an integral part of the semantic description of data sources in modern Data Lake systems.
